As last year, throughout the whole of November there will be an SSI exhibition in the library of the London College of Communication in Elephant & Castle where the Society’s book collection and archive is housed. The theme will be “100 Years of European Lettering” and the display will span the revival of calligraphy at the beginning of the 20th century, its evolution through war and cold war, to the modern gestural and more art-based lettering of today. Items to see will include images of noteworthy work by both traditional and progressive calligraphers and lettering artists, plus some original artworks, as well as publications from the Society’s collection. The mix will include examples of lettering from the UK and across the European continent.
This is not a public event but the display will be freely accessible to all members of the SSI as well as students, staff and visitors to the college. You’ll need your SSI Library Card to gain entrance at the main reception. If you need a replacement card, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Details of getting to the LCC are on the Society’s website (click ABOUT then LIBRARY in the drop-down menu).
I do hope many of you can find time to visit!
