George Laurie Thomson (1916-2001)
Elected to Craft Membership in 1952.
Won a Scholarship to Edinburgh College of Art in 1932 followed by a post-diploma year and a travelling scholarship. He then worked in the Art Department of the Radio Times in London, returning to Edinburgh before war broke out. Numerous commissions for calligraphic work, wood and stone carving, pottery, bookbinding, and engraving.

Dr George Thomson (1943-)
Elected to Fellowship in 1968.
Dr George Thomson has been a professional practitioner and lecturer in the fields of calligraphy, lettering and typography for more than 40 years. He was Head of Graphic Design and Leader of Academic Research at the University of Cumbria until 2002. Now as an Honorary Research Fellow of the University of Glasgow, he researches, writes and lectures on calligraphy and lettering. He has undertaken ground-breaking research in the field of inscriptional palaeography, especially in relation to funerary memorials and has made a major contribution to the field of computer-aided design, applying the computer as a creative tool for lettering nd calligraphy. He has published extensively on calligraphy, lettering, palaeography, history, biography and genealogy in international journals, as well as several books (twelve at 2012), some translated into German and French, and a CD ROM, and contributed to Mehigan, J. and White, M. Kate E Thorpe

Freda Titford (1924-2013)
Year of Election to Fellowship unknown.
Taught calligraphy at Brook House, Clapton, Adult Education centre from 1972, followed by teaching offers at a Friends Meeting House in Walthamstow. Taught at numerous art centres until 2001, when she decided to retire due to ill health. She lost the sight in one eye completely in 2002. After her book Here's Flowers For You was published in 1982, she was asked to teach botanical illustration as well as calligraphy, having learned to paint flowers at Flatford Mill Field Study Centre: she has always been an enthusiastic watercolourist. Freda died on 26th December 2013.

Lewis Trethewey
Elected to Craft Membership in 1958.
A Cornishman employed by the Inland Revenue, he was an early supporter of the SIH from its beginnings in 1952. As "member number 49" he wrote a series of articles about Italic in the SIH bulletins, which were models of clarity, practicality and sound thinking. He ran the 1970 AGM as Chairman. He taught at the Mary Ward Centre (for nearly 20 years) as well as the Central School and other London Institutes. (obituary Stan Knight, Scribe 26)
