Gaynor Goffe has been a professional calligrapher for 40 years, in addition to working to commission she is also well-known for teaching including 1982-97 at the Roehampton Institute and later at Reigate School of Art & Design, where she trained in the mid 1970’s followed by 3 years working with well-known calligrapher Donald Jackson. She is a fellow of the Society of Scribes & Illuminators and the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society and an elected member of Letter Exchange, and has taught widely throughout Europe and in the U.S. and Japan.

Her calligraphic interest lies particularly in exploring texts relating to natural landscapes and incorporating calligraphy, mixed media and sometimes carved stone in exploratory works. She has written 2 calligraphy books. In 2000 she was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society. Her calligraphic typeface ‘Hamada’ was commissioned and digitised by Linotype in 2009. She currently teaches at various residential centres (see her website), one-day or longer workshops at home near Ely, Cambs and runs correspondence courses via e-mail which can be geared to individual requirements. Some works illustrated are for sale, as are others most of which can be seen on her website. Prices on application.
