Originally trained as a graphic designer, Jilly worked as an art director in advertising before discovering calligraphy in 1986. She has been a Fellow of the SSI for 26 years.

She was a tutor on the ATS for 17 years and for ten of those, until 2016, was Convenor of the scheme. She now teaches the Writing & Design course.  She is administrator for and a tutor on the Correspondence Course.

Her book ‘Contemporary Calligraphy’ was published in 2011 and it is currently being reprinted.
